The Witney Town Charity is in the process of creating a new website that not only shares current information about our work, but also brings to light the long and fascinating history of the almshouses in our care. Our charity has served the people of Witney for many generations, and we believe that the website should reflect both the present and the past.
The research involved is detailed and sometimes slow. Old documents, trustees’ records and local archives are all being explored so that we can present accurate and engaging accounts of how the almshouses developed, who lived in them, and how they supported the community over time. As a result, some pages of the website are still incomplete and will remain so while this careful research continues.
Rather than wait until every piece of information is in place, we have chosen to launch the website now and add material as we complete it. This approach allows the community to see our progress, learn more as the story unfolds, and, we hope, share memories, photographs and knowledge that may help enrich the record.
We look forward to the website becoming a living resource that celebrates the heritage of the almshouses and the continuing work of the charity today.
